Congratulations to Mr Alex Yeo Siak Teong, Lecturer, Electrical Engineering, ITE College East for receiving the 2018 NEA EcoFriend Award (Public Sector Category)

A dedicated educator, Mr Alex Yeo leads by example by taking his environmental actions and bringing his students through hands-on projects that contribute to the community to the community. He has worked with various companies to start an e-waste collection programme at ITE College East in 2015. Since its launch, the programme has collected more than 1000kg of e-waste.

Rising Up to the eWaste Challenge

Mr Yeo worked with StarHub, DHL and TESS-AMM to start an eWaste Collection programme at ITE College East in May 2015 and over 1,176 kg of eWaste has been collected since then.  Bringing environmental efforts outside of the campus, he conducted an eWaste collection drive with Tampines Palmwalk Residents’ Committee and 70 students from the Environmental Club in ITE College East, which covered 20 HDB blocks and collected 915 kg of eWaste.

Introduction

The EcoFriend Awards was introduced in 2007 to recognise environmentally-proactive individuals in Singapore who have contributed significantly to environmental sustainability. By spotlighting them, we hope to be able to drive home the point that individuals can make a positive and enduring difference to our environment. The EcoFriend Awards is open to all individuals residing in Singapore for at least the past six months.
