School Green Day 2016

On 10 Nov 2016, the Singapore Environment Council organised School Green Day 2016 at ITE College East. The School Green Day is held annually to reinforce environmental initiatives and awareness amongst Pre-schools, Primary, Secondary, Polytechnics, ITEs and Junior Colleges.

30 over booths were set up by various participating schools to exhibit their green ideas, which could be in the form of items made from recycled materials, compost or wormery, interactive recycling bins, etc. The College East Environmental Club set up a booth showcasing crafts made from recycled banners and the students from the Landscape team set up a booth together with the National Parks Board on Community in Bloom initiative. The event was attended by about 600 – people comprising the Private and Public sectors – namely educators across Singapore, alongside key partners, volunteers and government agencies.

Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry, Mayor, South West CDC, Ms Low Yen Ling was the Guest of Honour for the event.  She presented awards to the winning schools and partners. ITE College East was honored to receive the Lotus Sustained Achievement Award and Best 3R Award.  A team of Environmental Club members was the Runner up in the Schools Recycling Bin competition.

The event was a success with all the guests and participants enjoying the great sharing and fun they had at the exhibition booths with free drinks and ice-cream.
