On 17 Jan 2015 afternoon, staff and students from School of Engineering, ITE College East had supported Project Twinkle, Electronic Waste (eWaste) & Used Beverage Cartons recycling drive. This project was in collaboration with Food From The Heart (FFTH), Tetra Pak, Ikea, Pokka Drinks & Kolam Ayer CC.

TES-AMM, a Waste Management company, would make cash donations to Food From The Heart (FFTH) based on the Electronics Waste collected.  Base on collected Electronics Waste, Ikea would contribute furniture to set up study area for beneficiary under FFTH. Besides, Pokka would also donate Pokka drinks for beneficiaries under FFTH based on the amount collected for used beverage cartons.

Under this community service initiative, 130 Engineering students and 17 staff, together with Kolam Ayer RC members, went door-to-door to collect the electronic waste and used beverage cartons at the two Kolam Ayer RC Zones.

More than 4000 households were targeted under these two RC Zones.  One group of staff and students were led by Ms Catherine Soh, Deputy Director, School of Engineering to cover the households in Bendemeer. Another group led by Alex Yeo, Lecturer, Electrical Engineering Department, covered the households in Sims Drive.

At the end of the day, the staff and students felt a sense of fulfillment, knowing that their hard work could help to raise fund for beneficiaries under FFTH.

Ikea Singapore will match the eWaste collected with furniture (study table and chair) for the beneficiaries of FFTH.

Total number of benefited household expected to benefit from this project: 42
